Lessons On Success From Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion?

over_the_rainbow_TOWWTLife is an adventure and whether you are running a company, managing a household, a full time student or just juggling your to do list. There is too much to do and too little time to do it in. You have to determine what is important, where do you focus. It isnt just about time management.

Dorothy from the Wizard of OZ, had a challenge to overcome as well, she wanted to get back home and didn’t know how. Here are 3 lessons we can learn from Dorothy’s road to OZ.

Don’t go it alone:

No one accomplishes anything alone. The bigger the goal, the more we need others. You have heard the expression it is the journey not the destination. Well that journey includes the people you meet and support you along the way. They enhance the journey, help us find answers and resources, create greater purpose behind the goal and reaching it because it becomes something more than ourselves.

Dorothy met some unlikely friends along the way. She didn’t know she needed them but each brought an asset to their journey. They helped her have more purpose behind her reaching OZ so she could fulfill her wish but also the wishes of her friends. They supported her in overcoming obstacles created by the wicked witch and gave her intelligence, courage and the heart to overcome the witch, these very virtues they were seeking.

People come into our lives for a reason, to help us get through something, achieve a goal, or to provide support or challenge we need at the time. People come into our life for a season, which might be for a period of our life college, a new love, a team member and so on. Of course, there are those who are in your life for a lifetime by choice or circumstance. All of these people are there to support you in your journey one way or another.

Ask for help. You will be glad you did.

Follow the yellow brick road:

The path to your destination may be long and windy as it is rarely straight. It may break off into a few parts and then come back to a central path. The key is to overcome distractions and stay on the path.

It is so easy to get distracted. We all have our equivalent of the poppy fields that attracted Dorothy away from the yellow brick road she was told would bring her to the wizard of OZ. The poppies were drug like and unconsciously took their attention away from their goal. We are tempted with immediate satisfaction, with the promise of a simpler way, or whatever your temptations are. There are flying monkeys and wicked witches, they just go by another name or come in a different form, it doesn’t make them any less real or distracting. The key is to recognize as quickly as possible that you have strayed and get back on the path.

Everything you need is within you.

It took the whole journey to see the Wizard of OZ for Dorothy to find out that, She had the power all along to get home on her own.

You have what it takes too. believe it or not more than 50 percent of the population feel they are an imposter, not good enough or faking their way through their success. The more successful people are, the more of an imposter they feel. It is crazy but it is true. They work hard, afraid someone will find them out and most of this is unconscious, we aren’t even really aware of it.

Take a lesson from Dorothy and her friends you have all the heart, brains and courage you need to overcome any challenge, you just have to have faith and believe in yourself and the world around you. There is no conspiracy against you but FOR you. You are not an imposter, challenges are part of the journey and you have what it takes. It is your journey that defines and refines you.

When you feel stuck next time, take a lesson on success from Dorothy and remember all the resources you have available to you. One of my mentors taught me that you don’t give resources to people, you give resources to resourcefulness. When you are resourceful, the resources will show up. If you think about it, you know this to be true.

Take an inventory of your resources and access your resourcefulness and you will quickly find your way back to the path, your yellow brick road.
